Preparing for Surgery
We’ve outlined some information to reference as you prepare for your surgery. Please follow the instructions given by your physician to prepare for your procedure.
Prior to Surgery Instructions:
- You will be prescribed eye drops for your surgery. Be sure to pick up your drops before your scheduled surgery.
- Drops/Medication Prescribed:
ERX/Standard Drops (Drops you pick up from your pharmacy) In-House Drops (Drops you pick up from our office)
Please Note:
You must arrange to have a responsible adult drive you home. YOU MAY NOT DRIVE YOURSELF due to having anesthesia and a possible shield on the operated eye. If taking a taxi, Uber or Lyft, YOU MUST HAVE ANOTHER RESPONSIBLE ADULT to accompany you in the taxi, Uber or Lyft. Failure to have a driver/responsible adult to accompany you home may result in the cancellation of your surgery.
Day of Surgery Instructions:
1. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING 6 HOURS BEFORE SURGERY.

- Please be sure that the meal you eat 6 hours prior to surgery is a light meal. (If you have a large meal your surgery will be cancelled.)
- IF YOU EAT OR DRINK LESS THAN 6 HOURS BEFORE YOUR SURGERY, YOUR SURGERY WILL BE CANCELLED. (This includes coffee, water, etc.)

2. If you are DIABETIC:

- If your surgery is in the morning.
- DO NOT TAKE your insulin or your diabetic medication before surgery. (Please bring your insulin or diabetic medication with you, so it can be taken after surgery if necessary)
- If your surgery is in the afternoon.
- Take HALF of your usual dose of insulin or diabetic medication. 6 Hours prior to surgery eat a LIGHT high protein diet. (Please contact our office if you have any questions regarding your medication)
- If your surgery is in the morning.
3. Prescription medications can be taken with a small sip of water, the morning of surgery.
4. DO NOT wear any makeup and be sure to wash your face the morning of surgery.
5. Wear a blouse or shirt that is loose around the neck and has short sleeves.
6. Please do not wear earrings or necklaces on the day of surgery.
7. Shower or bathe the night before or the morning of your surgery.
8. You may brush your teeth and rinse your mouth the morning of surgery.
9. You are advised to refrain from smoking, including electronic cigarettes, the day of your surgery.
Please Note:
FAILURE TO FOLLOW THE ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN CANCELLATION OF YOUR SURGERY.
